Description   EN

This cache started life on GC, then when they took it upon themselves to archive it I posted it on Terracaching (see here) I've now decided to move it one last time onto Opencaching. Leominster (pronounced 'Lemster') dates back to the 7th Century. Some say that Leominster is named after Earl Leofric, the husband of Lady Godiva who famously rode naked through the streets of Coventry on horseback. But this probably isn't true. The town possesses some fine examples of architecture throughout the ages. The Priory Church, founded in 663, was a very important religious centre in pre-Norman conquest times, and was formerly a monastery. Grange Court, built in 1633 by the King's carpenter John Abel, was formerly sited at The Buttercross, on the junction of High Street and Broad Street. It served as the town hall with an open-air market beneath. It was moved to its current site in The Grange in 1856. The lower floor was enclosed, and today Grange Court houses local authority offices. Throughout the town there is a wide variety of architectural styles from the medieval overhangs in Drapers Lane and School Lane, to the Georgian splendour of Broad Street. The town centre has recently become semi-pedetrianised, recreating the bustling atmosphere of a market town. A market is still held each Friday in Corn Square. (Taken from http://www.leominster.co.uk) For further information please visit here Parking is mostly free (!!!) The cache itself is a black 35mm film can containing a logsheet and micro pencil. It blends in very well with its immediate surroundings (hint) and should stay dry (another hint). I can almost guarantee no satellite reception at the location but the coordinates should be reasonably accurate as I averaged readings from each of the three access points (yet another hint). It contains a magnet so be sure it "sticks" when you replace it. Despite it being right in the middle of the muggle rich centre of the town, not many people come down here (last hint!) There is wheelchair access as long as it's not too wide (oh all right, definitely the last hint!) but you might need help to reach the cache.

On a day off today ... where shall I go - Feel like a bit of a drive to pastures new.

Luvverly Leominster indeed! The GPS got me within a few yards, and the clues narrowed the search down further, and the cache was soon in my hands.

Now, someone mentioned a cuppa ...

TFTC,
Paul

I visited this cache in August - you know, the month that is supposed to be the middle of our summer. At that point it was still a TerraCache, and I can do no better than to reproduce my TerraCache log ...

It was the start of a two day TerraCache trip to Leominster and points north, and I opened the front door to a very grey dawn. And as I walked round to the shed where I keep my motor-bike I felt a spot or two of rain.

Never mind, the forecast was good, so I wouldn't bother with my full wet gear, as long as I keep moving the windscreen keeps the worst off. But by the time I had stowed my bags it was raining quite hard. I set off, and before I reached the end of the road it was torrential! Full wet gear WAS required.

It was so heavy going round the M25 that I couldn't even see the lane markings, and it didn't ease up at all until I was well past Oxford.

Frankly, I needn't have bothered with the wet gear, for all the good it did. I stopped to do a Groundspeak cache at Chipping Norton, took off my sodden gloves and the water streamed out of my sleeves. And it had soaked down my neck. This was the wettest I've got on a bike for years!

I was starting to dry out, but still pretty uncomfortable when I arrived in Leominster for this, my first TerraCache of the day. I parked in the main car park, not sure what would be revealed when I got to GZ. And what WAS revealed wasn't at all what I had imagined.

I looked for the cache. I looked at the hint. I looked for the cache some more. I went back and read the cache page again, scrutinising every word. And eventually I found it.

This is a very well hidden little cache, in an interesting place. It's not muggle central, but you do have to keep your eyes open - I was disturbed 4 or 5 times, but fortunately only when I was looking, not touching.

My next port of call was the cache setter's house, for a cup of coffee and to change my clothes, after which I would feel human againBut I wasn't impressed to hear they had no rain at all in Leominster.

Thanks for an excellent cache, one for which I feel I earned my TPS (TerraCaching Points) :-)

Rgds, Andy
