Burford Down Stone Row is just over a quarter of a mile long and is still surprisingly straight when viewed from the cairn/cist at the top of the hill. The stone from the cairn has nearly all gone but it can still be made out by a small mound with a hollow center where the cist once was.
Looking down the incline from the cairn you can see the row quite clearly because it appears a swathe of the moorland is kept cut back from the stones.
Apart from the stone row there are several hut circle remains on the hilltop here so this was once a thriving community for prehistoric man. From where the cache is, there are no signs of modern times, roads, farms, pylons etc so what you see when you are here is not that different from what they would have seen in their time. That is what makes places like this so appealing to me and I hope you enjoy your visit as much I did when I set these caches today.
I would guess this will be done along with the Tristis Rock Cache so the parking coordinates and route will be the same as for that one.
The cache is a medium sized pill pot which is hidden a short distance from the row and about half way along its length.
