A simple cache close to the ancient remains of
Dartmeet Clapper Bridge. It's just a short walk across the road and up
a bank to the cache from the clapper but, hopefully, far enough away
from the many visitors.

Dartmeet gets its name from the fact that the East and West Dart join
forces just below the road bridge here. In ancient times the crossing
here was by means of the clapper bridge which is one of the favourite
visiting points for the tour coaches and holiday visitors.






The bridge was destroyed by a storm in 1826 and was rebuilt by the
Dartmoor Preservation Association around 60 years later but has since
been partially washed away again by storm floods.

Only the first and third granite spans remain of the five which were
originally here and it is the third or central one which is the goal of
almost every able bodied visitor. It is easy enough to get to the
central span for "The Photo" by stepping across the many boulders in
the river but the more adventurous may like to try reaching the span
with a simple little hop, skip and JUMP!!!






The cache is hidden down the side of a Rowan tree and is right by the
footpath. The photo shows the location to minimise damage to the area..
